Meeting Report 24th April 2013

East Brent Harvest Home - 2013

(156th Anniversary Year)

The Harvest Home Committee held a meeting on Wednesday, 24th April 2013 where we discussed plans for this year’s event. A Special Interim Meeting was also held on 10th April 2013 to specifically discuss and decide on the field drainage.

Venue/Field Drainage

As previously mentioned, at the meeting on 10th April, it was agreed that the field would be ‘Mole Ploughedafter being harrowed/rolled to reduce ruts created by heavy vehicles whilst the ground was water-logged. This has now been done and together with the recent dry weather, the field has dried well and should continue to be in a suitable condition. However, a close watch will be maintained on its condition.

It is worth noting that Bristol Water are installing a new water main which will cross the Harvest Home field. They will ‘mole’ this at a depth of 2 metres so will have minimal effect on any drainage plans. We are in contact with Bristol Water to ensure our plans are unaffected. It is understood that some Roman artefacts have been found in other fields during excavations for the new pipes.

2013 Event

Detail arrangements for this year’s Harvest Home are progressing well. A revised seating plan is being developed to suit the 400 at lunch. There will be the traditional Church parade, service and lunch with the “Parade of the Puddings”, speakers, raffle and auction of surplus goods. This will be followed by a family tea with a Jazz band, children’s entertainment, bouncy castles and a bar which will close by 8:00 pm.

More details will be announced in due course.

Luncheon tickets will go on sale at the Village Hall on Monday, 29th July 2013 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm and thereafter at the Brent Knoll Inn (thankfully, now re-opened) or contact Rita Thomas on 01278 760695. Every effort is being made to minimise the ticket cost which will be announced next month but will be no higher than previously.

Future Meetings

Meetings are on the 4th Wednesday of each month. The next meetings will be on Wednesday, 29th May and 26th June 2013. All meetings are held in the East Brent Village Hall at 7:00 pm.

The 2013 East Brent Harvest Home will take place on :

Friday, 23rd August 2013.

This year, we have a great deal of challenging work to carry out. Everyone is welcome to get involved in this great Parish/Somerset tradition so please come and join us. All views are welcome.
